Solon and new word

Okay, 10 points to Hope. I stand corrected!

solon - wise lawgiver, legislator (in Athens many moons ago). I have seen it used currently as a dismissive word for a politician who thinks he is of the privileged and better-informed elite.

New word: scabrous - actually not too far from how it sounds.

Scabrous - like a scoundrel? I feel like most of these are good guesses, I obviously don't know as much as I thought I did.

His scabrous nature led him to slip a candlestick into his pocket at the dinner party. A fact that ensured he'd never be asked back.

My guess is that is has something to do with a scab? Like scabby or scaly - you said sort of how it sounded (but I might be taking it TOO literal!)

The skin of a fish is sometimes referred to as scabrous because of its rough texture.
